WUSME IN CONSULTATIVE STATUS WITH UNIDO SINCE 2020
WORLD UNION OF SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES (WUSME) was officially granted Consultative Status with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) at the 48th session of the Industrial Development Board, which took place from November 23-25, 2020 at the Vienna International Center in Vienna, Austria. The consultative status is a token of acknowledgement of a formal cooperative relationship between UNIDO and WUSME. Receiving the status was a further milestone in the development of WUSME and also an essential step to the establishment of an exchange platform for global SMEs. Consultative Status with UNIDO is viewed as an international appreciation for excellent and professionalism of WUSME with the granted status. Only a small number of NGOs have obtained that status in the past.
WUSME & UNFCCC (COP)
WUSME ADMITTED AS AN OBSERVER ORGANIZATION TO THE UNFCCC
WUSME attended several editions of COP over the last years. The first participation of WUSME was in COP 22, which took placse in November 2016 in Marrakech. In the meantime, the Organization, already formally recognized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council, requested and received the status of Observer Organization on occasion of the COP24 held in December 2018 in Katowice. In 2019, WUSME became actively involve in the COP25 which was moved from Santiago del Chile to Madrid in Spain. As part of the Conference activities, WUSME organized an ocfficial Side Event in collaboration with the Griffith University-Australia entitled “Climate goals: the contribution of SMEs and nature-based solutions”. General Secretary Prof. Dr. Norbert W. Knoll von Dornhoff and WUSME Ambassador in Tunisia and Special Representative Mr. Dogad Dogoui took the floor as WUSME Speakers to address the challenges and opportunities for SMEs facing climate change.
In 2021, WUSME attended the COP26 which took place in Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November. WUSME President Barbara Terenzi, Vice President India Dr. Joginder Singh Juneja and Board Member Michel Fossaert virtually attended the proceedings of the Conference. In 2022, WUSME actively contributed to the COP27 held in Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt). Successful outcome of the official side event led by WUSME in collaboration with ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India), ACCARD (African Centre for Climate Action and Rural Development Initiative), Initiatives of Change International e EDFI (European Development Finance Institutions) on 16 November 2022 on the theme “Tackling Climate Change: remedial measures for SMEs, sustainable infrastructure and land governance“. Main topics addressed by the experts and panelists: climate finance, adaptation & mitigation needs, solutions and proposals for the energy transition of SMEs and communities in key sectors such as energy. agriculture, management of water resources and the territory with particular attention to their impact on young people, women and social development. WUSME & UN ECOSOC
WUSME IN SPECIAL CONSULTATIVE STATUS WITH THE UN-ECOSOC
AS BRIDGE BETWEEN SMEs AND THE UNITED NATIONS IN THE WORLD SINCE 2013
As NGO in “Special Consultative Status” with the UN-ECOSOC since 2013, WUSME has the opportunity, through its representatives, to interact regularly with the United Nations system to acquire qualified information on opportunities of growth and development existing for Small and Medium Enterprises and Crafts, start up, young entrepreneurs and women entrepreneurs. The accreditation to the United Nations confirms the commitment of WUSME in the promotion and enhancement of SMEs with particular reference to their access to finance, education & training, business.
WUSME is one of the few Non-Profit-NGOs, operating in protection and support of SMEs globally, interacting with the UN system and related Offices in Geneva, New York and Vienna, as recognized Bridge Organizations for SMEs and related Associations, seizing opportunities for funds, projects, contacts, as well as qualified information able to enhance profitable partnerships.
WUSME & UN GLOBAL COMPACT
WUSME SIGNATORY OF THE UN GLOBAL COMPACT SINCE 2012
WUSME is Partner Organization of the United Nations Global Compact since 2012. The UN Global Compact is a United Nations initiative founded to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable policies, in respect of corporate social responsibility, and to make public the results of actions taken. A framework that brings together 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environmental sustainability and anti-corruption. The Commitment on Engagement is a report in which the Organization illustrates how it has actively and concretely promoted the respect for the ten principles by enterprises in the last two years of activity. The document also contains a description of the practical actions that the WUSME Organization has adopted to support the Global Compact, there including engagement with local networks, participation in and/or proposal of partnership projects on corporate sustainability and support to special initiatives.
