Description

WUSME AMBASSADOR IN SHANGHAI

Kjeld Friis Munkholm is a Shanghai-based international business and industrial cooperation executive and adviser. His professional engagement with China began in 1994, and he has been continuously based in the country since November 1998. He brings more than 27 years of China-based executive and cross-border experience, combined with European business discipline and extensive international market insight.
His career has included senior responsibilities as Technical Director, Business Development Manager, Supply Chain Manager, General Manager and CEO. Having worked from factory-floor operations to boardroom decision-making, and having visited more than 500 manufacturing companies, Kjeld brings practical insight into industrial capabilities, supplier qualification, localization, quality assurance, operational performance and cross-cultural execution.
His cross-sector experience encompasses industrial development, the energy and sustainability transition, infrastructure, resource efficiency and complex international supply and value chains, with particular interest in the bioeconomy, circular economy and sustainability-led industrial transformation. This breadth enables him to assess opportunities through strategic, commercial, operational and investment perspectives rather than through a narrow sector lens.
Kjeld works at the intersection of strategy advisory, investment and implementation, providing board-ready market intelligence, governance support and controlled execution pathways aligned with ESG principles and the SDGs.
While China remains his principal operating base, Kjeld’s international market insights, worldwide professional relationships and cooperation activities extend across the EU and wider Europe, ASEAN and the broader APAC region, the GCC, Central Asia, Latin America, Africa and the United States. This cross-regional perspective enables him to assess opportunities through commercial, industrial, regulatory, cultural and execution lenses.
Kjeld’s experience is particularly relevant to SMEs seeking international growth and requiring additional senior-level capabilities to navigate unfamiliar or complex markets. He supports SME leadership teams with market prioritization and entry strategy, stakeholder mapping, partner and supplier screening, commercial due diligence, sourcing, localization, supply-chain development, negotiation, governance and implementation follow-through. His role is to help SMEs achieve faster market access, clearer decisions, stronger execution and lower commercial and reputational risk without creating unnecessary permanent overhead.
Kjeld serves as an EUCPTID Committee Member for China and Denmark and CEO and Owner of Munkholm & Zhang Consulting.
As WUSME Ambassador in Shanghai, he contributes deep China-based operating experience, international networks and execution-focused strategic insight to strengthen entrepreneurship, SME internationalization, investment cooperation and sustainable industrial partnerships between China and global markets.
