Why cloud platforms will make SMEs stronger

May 28th, 2019 – DATA growth is usually directly correlated with the company’s growth, and this has been especially true with small- and medium-sized companies (SMEs).

SMEs in the APAC region have been enjoying tremendous growth and success in the digital economy, and accordingly, the volume of data they accumulate has also grown at an unprecedented rate.

While this growth indicates success, it begs the question: Are SMEs well equipped to manage the deluge of data they sit on?

Cloud computing platforms seems to be the perfect answer to address data management issues for these organizations, affording them sufficient storage, security, and control over their data without breaking the bank.

Data management, simplified

Moving to the cloud is particularly attractive and suitable for SMEs mainly due to the fact that the deployment options are both flexible and scalable.

For example, companies could move all their data the cloud, or move some of the data to the cloud while maintaining some on-premise.

Further, thanks to the development within cloud infrastructure and network technology, businesses could seamlessly share, sync, store, and archive data of any size and format, allowing them to operate with optimal efficiency.

In addition, almost all cloud service providers offer various tools and applications for enterprises to access and manage their data, practically form any location, which could come in handy for businesses operating in multiple locations.

Enhanced security

While cloud services could sufficiently solve the growing data issue, most business leaders are also concerned about data security.

Their worries are not misplaced as companies, especially SMEs, cannot afford to have the customer data get into the wrong hands.

Beyond that, data security is mandated by many local regulatory agencies, and companies are at risk of incurring penalties if they fail to comply with the required data security standards.

Cloud-based platforms are able to provide a good solution to this problem as they come with security baked-in.

Cloud computing providers are always at the forefront of network and storage security, making the necessary investments to bolster their architecture, as secure infrastructure give them a massive competitive edge within the space.

Furthermore, companies will be in the driver’s seat when it comes to their data, whereby all the necessary triggers are in place to notify them of changes and transfer their data. This enables companies to exert stricter protocols and tighter controls over their data.

In conclusion, data has emerged as the most valuable asset for companies in the digital era, but the challenges of managing the growing size of data should not hinder SMEs from leveraging it. They should evaluate cloud solutions to simplify data management and help them secure the data as well.
