WUSME at COP24: to be recognized as NGO Official Partner

December 14th, 2017 – The 23rd United Nations World Climate Change Conference (COP23) was held in Bonn, Germany, from 6 to 17 November 2017, under the presidency of the Fiji Islands, among the most vulnerable nations in the world with respect to changes climate.
WUSME has always been committed to highlight the importance of the macroeconomic effects of climate change and, in particular, the consequences for the economic and social development of Small and Medium Enterprises in the international context. In fact, SMEs can provide a significant contribution to the resilience of climate change by implementing policies, directives and guidelines provided by institutions, as well as developing new business opportunities in the specific field of environmental protection, to be seized through the use of financial resources, with the aim to develop sustainable, innovative and decarbonized global economy, and feed other markets, such as green economy, green technologies, projects for environmental protection and solutions for the optimization of natural resources and the reduction of pollution.

COP24 in Poland

Following the decisions and negotiations carried out at COP 23, WUSME will carry on its commitment to achieve a sustainable growth and development goals within the SMEs ecosystem. At the same time, the Organization, already formally recognized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council, has applied to be granted the Observer Status in the next 24th United Nations World Climate Change Conference (COP24) to be held from 3 to December 14, 2018 in Katowice, Poland.

Ways-to-engage as Observer

Developing position papers and making formal submissions in re-sponse to calls for information and views by negotiating bodies.

Holding bilaterals with government delegates to share posi-tion papers and submissions, and advocate policy perspectives. The secretariat offers meeting rooms free of charge when available through the Meeting Room Assignment (MRA). More information is available here.

Showcasing and advocacy through press conferences, side events and exhibits and 1 -Day Island, whereby observer organizations can net-work and disseminate.

Making joint constituency statements in the plenaries and at the high-level segment addressing the conference with concise and impactful messages delegates from a diversity of voices channeled through constit-uencies. Further information is available here.

Preparing for dialogues and briefings and raising key issues and asking pertinent questions to the Presiding officers and the UNFCCC Executive Secretary. These meeting are chaired by one of the Constitu-ency Focal Points. During the conference, information on such meetings will be published in the Daily Programme and on the CCTV screens.
