WUSME at the Belt and Road Summit 2026 in Hong Kong
WUSME was pleased to be represented at the Belt and Road Summit 2026 by our Board Member and Chairman of the Permanent Commission on Economic and Financial Issues, Dr. George Lam.
Held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on 9–10 September 2026, the Summit focused on the theme “Advancing High Quality Development • Embarking on a New Journey,” with a strong emphasis on inclusive and sustainable development. This year’s edition was one of the most successful to date, attracting over 6,200 participants from more than 70 countries and regions, with hundreds of projects showcased and dozens of cooperation agreements signed, reflecting the Summit’s growing influence and reach in the Global South.
During the Summit, Dr. Lam interacted with a wide range of participants, including:
• Mr. Nicholas Ho, Hong Kong SAR Government Belt and Road Office
• Mr. Charleston Sin, Hong Kong Science and Technology Park
• Mr. Brian Wong, Monte Jade Science and Technology Association of Hong Kong and InvestAI Foundation
• Ir. Eric Chan, Hong Kong Cyberport
• Ir. Chi Sing Ho, BEAM Society and Hong Kong Green Building Council
• Ms. Emma Tong, Secretariat of the Belt and Road General Chamber of Commerce
These exchanges might be important for WUSME cooperation in the future and highlighted the Summit’s role as a dynamic and resourceful cross-border platform, enabling MSMEs in developing countries to connect with policymakers, opinion leaders, technology innovators, industry champions, entrepreneurs, chambers of commerce, think tanks, academics, educators, investors and lenders.
Dr. Lam’s participation underscored WUSME’s commitment to fostering international exchange and cooperation along the Belt and Road region, enhancing the Union’s visibility in the Asia Pacific and strengthening international networks in support of MSME engagement in cross-regional trade and innovation.
The Belt and Road Summit 2026 reaffirmed Hong Kong’s position as a super-connector, bridging Asian enterprises with global markets and advancing WUSME’s agenda on sustainable economic and financial development for MSMEs.
