
Participation of WUSME in COP30 Belém (Brasil) with an Official SIDE EVENT and EXHIBIT
WUSME’s participation in COP30 concluded on November 20th, after four days of fruitful commitment in the Official Exhibit and Side Event and visits to National Pavilions and Events.
SIDE EVENT
The Side Event took place on 18th November in collaboration with the European University Institute, the German Emissions Trading Association (BVEK), the Tsinghua University – Global Climate Change Institute (GCCI) and the Seoul International Law Academy (SILA) to address “Towards a global carbon market: how to ensure integrity and cooperation”.
The panel brought together speakers and experts from the Partner Organizations and their international networks. WUSME focused on the growing importance of SMEs related to this field.
Speakers included Jacopo Bencini (EUI Carbon Markets Hub), Simone Borghesi, and Stefano De Clara (ICAP), who presented the latest developments in carbon markets, from emerging international agreements to the role of offsets in emissions trading systems. In the second part, moderator Robert Tippman brought together participants from Korea, China, and WUSME. Suh-Yong Chung (SILA) analyzed the mechanisms of Article 6 within the Korean NDC framework, while Yuyuan Weng (Tsinghua) illustrated the evolution of the Chinese ETS, now active in four sectors and expanding. President Barbara Terenzi (WUSME) represented SMEs, highlighting obstacles and opportunities for a more equitable access to carbon markets and WUSME’s role in supporting enterprises. The Side Event recorded high participation, confirming the growing interest in more inclusive, effective carbon markets capable of generating concrete benefits for sustainable development.
EXHIBIT
The Exhibit has been held in conjunction with the Side Event from 17th to 20th November in collaboration with the Tsinghua University and revolved around the Future global carbon market mechanism: path and cooperation to reach all sectors and key group, such as SMEs. The Exhibit has also been a space and moment for WUSME to welcome international Delegates, share insights and discuss opportunities for collaborations.
On first day of participation in COP30, 17th November 2025, WUSME had the opportunity to meet Tsinghua University in Beijing recently and the delegations met again in Belém for the opening of the Official joint Exhibit at the COP30.
VISITS TO PAVILIONS AND EVENTS
The participation in COP30 has been an opportunity also to visit several national pavilions, such as the Italian one, with the presence of the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Mr. Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, and attend several Side Events held by important International Organizations, such as the FAO.
The meeting with SEBRAE, an organization already in contact with WUSME through its Head of International Affairs, Vinicius Lages, was of particular importance. This institution is dedicated to supporting Brazilian SMEs, and on November 19th celebrated the National Women’s Entrepreneurship Day with the participation of Brazilian Minister of Women, Ms. Márcia Lopes, recognizing the increasingly central role of women in agri-environmental innovation and the development of the Amazon.
