Alibaba CEO Jack Ma: Technology Can Be Used to ‘Empower’ Small Businesses
Alibaba CEO Jack Ma has a mission to make it easier for small businesses to get up and running.
January 18 th, 2017 – Alibaba (BABA) has a mission to help small businesses, CEO Jack Ma said in an interview on CNBC’s “Halftime Report” on Wednesday afternoon.
“How can we hire 5 million people to deliver things, for us to deliver the things we sold?” he asked. The answer is to “empower” service companies and logistic companies and to ensure that they are “efficient”.
Last year, the company was able to offer one-day delivery in 125 cities, he pointed out. This would have been unfathomable a decade ago. “It’s improving. You can never expect these things to happen within 24 hours”.
The company is most proud of how it’s using technology to help small businesses, he said. “It’s not how much money we make. It’s not how powerful we are”.
Ma recalled the frustration of waiting three months to borrow $5,000 in 1992 to start his first business. “So difficult to be a small business”, he added.
Now technology can be used to help those companies, Ma reiterated. “This is something I want to do”.
