Message of WUSME President Barbara Terenzi
“I am pleased to inform that WUSME will participate in important initiatives, with our representatives, on the occasion of the Micro Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Day established by the United Nations to celebrate the contribution of MSMEs to global and local economic development.
In particular, the following WUSME Representatives will take active part in UN events: WUSME Board Member Mr. Daniel Musiitwa Ssubi will speak at the 5th Annual Event of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on June 27, on the theme “Innovations in the MSMEs to support the SDGs”; – WUSME Board Member Mr. Vinod Kumar and the WUSME Ambassador in Thailand Mr. Nestor Buenaflor will speak at the event organized by UNCTAD and ESCAP entitled “The contribution of competition policy to the resurgence of MSMEs post-COVID-19″, held in Bangkok (Thailand ) on 27 and 28 June.
The MSMEs Day aims to raise public awareness on the contribution of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in view of the achievement of the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda. Such contribution of SMEs represents the backbone of most of the world’s economies, plays a key role in countries developing in a strategic sector to promote:
– participation in domestic and international markets;
– access to credit;
– sustainable business practices;
– responsible investments.
The economic recession generated by the Covid-19 pandemic has had a severe impact on the economy, but also created opportunities for the development of effective policies and measures to promote MSMEs. Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises are crucial not only for creating jobs, but also for stimulating the entrepreneurship and innovation necessary to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
WUSME wants to be a reference point for SMEs, a venue for fruitful exchange of knowledge and experience and a tool to strengthen international cooperation.
The WUSME Association continues to pursue its commitment to raise awareness of the institutions so that SMEs are supported and aid is guaranteed through the possibility of access to immediate funds with a simplified bureaucracy”.
